• Are the balloons going to fly?

  This is a favorite question during the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest, the state championship of hot-air ballooning held here in Howell and hosted by the chamber. Weather permitting, balloons are launched shortly after dawn and a few hours before sunset, when the winds are the calmest.

   

  The pilots are briefed on the weather at special Pilot Briefings at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and the decision is made at that time. Click here to visit the Michigan Challenge website at www.michiganchallenge.com.
