Community Theatre of Howell award grant from State of Michigan County for Arts and Cultural Affairs

The Community Theatre of Howell has been awarded a grant of $7,462.00 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of 561 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2019 funding.

Organizations receiving grant awards are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Local support of the project included Patrick Financial, Archer Huntley Financial Services, Dr. Gordan Niles, Biggby Coffee #156, 1st National Bank, Charyl Stockwell Academy, High Flyers Gymnastics, E2i Designs, Champion Chevrolet, and Aubrees Pizzeria and many individual community members.

The grant award along with the matching funds will be used to upgrade the theatre’s failing sound system. New house speakers, stage microphones, and amplifiers are being installed in October so that they are fully functional for the opening show of The Little Mermaid on November 9. These elements will enhance the audience’s auditory experience of the production. Stage monitors are also being installed, which will better enable the performers’ perception of the accompanying music, thereby enhancing their vocal performance.

The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors or residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.

A complete list of grant awards around the state is available by contacting MCACA at (517) 241-4011 or by visiting the MCACA website at www.michigan.gov/arts.
