Vaupel bill provides increased support for parents of children with spina bifida

Health Policy Committee approves bill
A bill sponsored by state Rep. Hank Vaupel to provide information and support for parents of children diagnosed with spina bifida was approved today by the House Health Policy Committee.
Parents whose children are initially diagnosed with spina bifida have many questions. This legislation calls on the Department of Health and Human Services to provide parents with the tools necessary to successfully raise a child with spina bifida.
Vaupel, who chairs the committee, said parents should be given support and compassion in this situation.
“Mothers who have gone through the spina bifida diagnosis process have expressed a need for this legislation,” said Vaupel, of Fowlerville. “We’re listening to their call for help and support.”
House Bill 4548 now moves to the House floor for further consideration.
Questions regarding this legislation may be directed to Vaupel’s Capitol office at (517) 373-8835 or HankVaupel@house.mi.gov.
