It was with heavy hearts that the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce has made the decision to cancel the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest for this year due to overwhelming concern for public health as a result of COVID -19.

The Michigan Challenge Committee appreciates the community support we have enjoyed for 35 years, and looks forward to seeing everyone at the 2021 event.

Michigan Challenge Balloonfest

The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest fills the sky above Livingston County with colorful hot air balloons June 26 – 28, 2020, with pilots competing for the state championship of hot air ballooning.

Hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, this annual event attracts more than 100,000 spectators. Weather permitting, the balloons launch en masse from the Howell High School complex on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of balloonfest weekend.

The spectacular, colorful balloons aren’t the only attraction: The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest features sky divers, live entertainment, stunt kite demonstrations, balloon glow, fireworks, a family fun tent, The Landing Zone area for kids, arts festival, and a carnival. Special attractions, entertainment and sales are featured in downtown Howell.
