Michigan Challenge Balloonfest

The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest fills the sky above Livingston County with colorful hot air balloons the last full weekend in June each year, with pilots competing for the state championship of hot air ballooning.

Hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, this annual event attracts more than 100,000 spectators. Weather permitting, the balloons launch en masse from the Howell High School complex on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of balloonfest weekend.

The spectacular, colorful balloons aren’t the only attraction: The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest features sky divers, live entertainment, stunt kite demonstrations, balloon glow, fireworks, a family fun tent, The Landing Zone area for kids, arts festival, and a carnival. Special attractions, entertainment and sales are featured in downtown Howell.
